1. First, call up the mixer by double-clicking
the speaker icon in the "System Tray" area on the right side of the Taskbar. (if
you don't see a speaker icon there, turn it on by going to Start
Menu/Settings/Control Panel/Multimedia/Audio
and checking the box that
says Show Volume Control on the Taskbar. Then close the Control Panel)
2. You'll see a mixer panel appear that
looks something like this:

(note that your mixer may not be showing all the vertical "strips" for
the different sound sources that is customizable through the Properties dialog for
the mixer)
3. Choose Properties from the Options menu. You'll see a screen like this:

4. Click the Recording radio button and make sure the CD Audio checkbox is checked.
5. Press the OK button to close this dialog and display the Recording
Controls.
6. Verify that the source that you want
has its SELECT box checked, and the volume is turned up about 3/4 of the
way.
